The Vampire Diaries: All About Stefan

Vampire Diaries season 3 spoilers below- don't read on if you don't want to know!

This week, executive producer of TVD (Julie Plec) dropped some rather large hints about Stefan and what to expect in Season 3

Season two left poor old Stefan in a sticky situation. Giving up all he loved about Mystic Falls, and leaving town with everyone's favourite but downright evil original Klaus left us all feeling like things were a little bit up in the air.

This week, Plec let slip that Stefan won't be returning to Mystic Falls any time near the start of the series airing this Autumn.

"When we come back, no-one will have heard from him, no-one will have seen him and the audience won't know where he's been," she told TV Guide. "What he's going through is going to be pretty surprising."

We all know that the new season will kick off with the bash that is Elena's 18th birthday but will Stefan be putting in an appearance on her big day, or will Damon be left to take care of her?

So, what else is in store for us in the new series...

We learn the "origin story"

A little more of Stefan's history comes to light (lots of gory historical action we're guessing here)

Confusion around which is the "good" and "bad" Salvator brother
